Ball is in your court Mr. Prime Minister : Hopeful Voter

Today a new regime takes on the reins of the country as NaMo takes oath of office and secrecy as PM of India and so begins our wait to see the good days. So what as a voter, I have to say to Mr. Narendra Modi today?

Well the nation has spoken – quite loudly infact - in support of a ray of hope. India, the largest democracy in the world, has been riddled with problems which have been aggravated over the years by the obliviousness of many leaders who have been in your position. While it is undoubtedly your aura in large part that got you here, but the contribution of mis-governance of last decade cannot be completely shrugged off. We had for 10 years a Prime Minister who never spoke – apart from checking if what he mumbled was “theek hai” – and a government which never governed – expect from ensuring that taxes we filed reached their personal bank accounts.

Well they say “ki ye public hai sab janti hai”!! So the public realized that they needed a change and they saw a hope in the dream that you offered. They bought your idea of the Gujarat model and they believed in your vision of “Aik Bharat, Shrestha Bharat”. I hope you realize that it wasn’t an easy job to put the great massacre of Gujarat behind our mind while accepting you for the progressiveness you have shown as CM. But we did because we had to, if we wanted to move forward. And we all said in unity – “Abki Baar, Modi Sarkar”. It was this slogan which we raised with you and empowered you to stand there at the podium to take your oath as PM of us 1.25 billion.

We all know that you have been bestowed with a forte in ensuring effective implementation and creating perceptions. As an earnest request, please focus on your former capability at least relatively more in your current job. Your proactive approach has been enthusiastically covered by media when apparently you have indicated a wish for a presentation from every departmental secretary. I know for a fact that there is commotion-filled rush among the departments to prepare their heads for a date with a seemingly strict and no-nonsense PM which probably hasn’t happened in last decade. Your masterstroke of inviting heads of SAARC nations for this oath taking ceremony has already raised hopes of us mere mortals. If nothing else, this definitely is a symbolic gesture to send a message that you are not afraid to start what is unprecedented, this nation with one-sixth of world population is ready to take on frontrunner role of the SAARC region and regional politics of states won't impact Indian foreign policy (Tamil Nadu against Sri Lanka, West Bengal against Bangladesh and Hindu extremists against Pakistan). The act definitely has left an entire nation (or probably two) wondering what NaMo is up to!! Trust us, we truly appreciate all this.

However now we are looking forward to live that dream and see that united and best country that you promised. I hope you realize from experience that promising “achche din aane wale hain” is much easier than showing “India Shining” which you would have to do in next 5 years. It is your job now to ensure that you live up to the trust we have placed in you. We as Indians were desperately looking for a way out from misrule and we handed this country in your hands on basis of a hope. Now we look up to you for providing us with a solution for infrastructure, education, economy, poverty, corruption and other hundreds of issues we face. And when you are at it ensure “Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas” still remains your motto and you do not just focus on the population that votes for you. Your slightest of non-performance would not only mean that you waste the golden chance for your party that electorate has offered, but would also simply take away from us the capability to hope or dream for times to come. It would become business as usual and we would continue to live and be governed as it has been all this while.

So for sake of all of us and the country, I sincerely hope ki sometime soon “acche din aane wale ho” and we see some concrete impact on ground from whatever you do at 7 RCR or one of the blocks in Raisina Hill!!
